Rock Solomon: News

Tour Ends at the VIPER ROOM - September 26, 2011

Hey Kiddies-  Tomorrow night (Tuesday Sept 27th) is the Last show of the Starving Artist Tour. I'm ending it at the Viper Room in Hollywood California. Show starts at 8pm, with a $10 cover.  My set is only 30 minutes, so don't be late if you can help it.  This will be one of the only shows in LA this year. The Starving Artist Tour concludes, but the movie project is just getting started. If you can't make it to the Viper Room, Just subscribe at my YouTube channel, and you'll get a notice when the video goes up to the web.  Like all my projects, I rely largely on the help from my friends, family & fans across the country.

Please consider donating via Paypal if you would like to see more of my projects come to fruition.  Thank you.

Music Tour Documentary - August 27, 2011

Fundraiser:

The countdown begins!!! As usual, a small idea turned out to be a MUCH LARGER PROJECT, and now I'm holding a fund raiser to try to bring it home.  I personally shot video of six months worth of music travels from Colorado to Seattle, through LA and in to Nevada for Burning Man. The entire trip was one big stumbling train wreck, but i survived, and got most of it on video! Did everything go as planned?  Not at ALL.  But hopefully the documentary will make it somehow worth all the couch-hopping, street hustling, car breakdowns (she broke down in almost EVERY major city from Miami to Seattle) and time and money spent.

PLEASE look at this Kickstarter campaign, and make a pledge. EVERY person who makes a pledge wil be sent a thank you token. The more you pledge, the bigger the package will be.  Watch the video, share it, and then pick the pledge reward you want.  Unless this project is fully funded, NO money will be charged to anyone, and I don't know what will happen to the project.  It would probably be put the in the vault to be forgotten forEVER and ever... and ever.   who knows?

My Web Series is Coming... - March 22, 2011

While going behind the scenes for performances at the Burning Man festival, the Peace Day festival, and a series of smaller shows, I documented my unique brand of 'mellow-sexy-good' music, from travels all over the United States this past summer/fall.

The challenge met: I Traveled and gigged for six months around the US, funded the trip with donations on the road, and filmed it all as a web series.

I've shot about 80 hours of footage, and now the next step is to sort through it all and tell the story. I have a post production budget of $1,200, and if I start fundraising now, I can hopefully start posting 'webisodes' by next month.  Let me know if you can/want to help me get the project finished!

Donate and get: An autographed CD & poster, + a set of stickers. *NEW* Any donations of $50 or more will also get you an Autographed DVD of the complete series and YOUR NAME in the credits of every episode.

Plus, my undying gratitude and thanks. =)
P.S. Don't forget that you can stream the music 24/7 free on this website. click play above, and enjoy!

Happy New Year 2011 - January 1, 2011

Happy New Year! The Mellow-Sexy-goodness continues into 2011 with a new site, a new city and a new agenda. I've decided to cut back on live shows and concentrate on finding a home for the music of "Unlocking the Window" on the soundtracks of upcoming filmmakers in Los Angeles.  I have also started working with a new band in the LA as a frontman and well...  ...it's all very hush-hush.  Sign up on the email list for new information as it comes, but as always, press play, and enjoy. :)

  -Dr. Rock

P.S. A Donation will get you a copy of the album, a poster, three stickers, and my eternal thanks.

 Thanks! [eternally]

Hello, Los Angeles... - November 17, 2010

On the first day, I avoided my first scam.  On the second day I avoided a dozen more scams.  On the third day I started to learn how it works.  On the fourth day I registered as an extra and found some local bands.  On the fifth day I set up interviews, and created my actor's resume for LA.  On the sixth day I booked the Viper Room.  On the seventh day I said, “forget resting! I’ve got to get to work!"

NEW VIDEO: [PLAY]> The New LIVE Video from the Hi-Dive

The summer was worth it.

The Colorado, Washington and Nevada shows went really well. It was all worth the driving and couch hopping this summer, for sure.  I got to perform at the INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY Celebration on live web-cast , Center Camp at the BURNING MAN Festival, and picked up a great video from the Denver HI-DIVE SHOW.  Now all the traveling and performing has finally brought me to Los Angeles and the VIPER ROOM.

The Starving Artist Tour continues....  in LA.

As always...

The Starving Artist Tour - August 5, 2010

Now that the album is done and is streaming freely to the world, it's time to travel around and share it with people.  If you dig our tunes, please feel free to invite us to play in your town. If you have some extra Top Raman and a couch or two, we just might do it!  Right now we are on our way to the BURNING MAN festival to play Center Camp, and Elephant Bird Camp, among others. The people at Burning Man center camp actually said that they would be "honored" to have us play. Wow! What a compliment!  Thank you Burning Man! We'll see you soon!  We'll try to get as much on video for ya'll that we can, and for those who want to watch the LIVE STREAMING VIDEO from BURNING MAN of our performances there, we'll be sending out updates to everyone on our email list, and on our facebook page.

We thank all of you, for all of your support, past present and future!  See you at Burning Man 2010!

LISTEN FREE; Donate For a Copy - June 2, 2010

Listen to the new album in it's entirety; just click play above (or pick and choose songs on the Music tab to your left). It has been 7 years in the making, but now that it's done, I can't seem to decide on a set value for the CD.  (divided at 8 dollars an hour, it would be something like $364.80 each)  So I have decided to let YOU DECIDE.  And it's not a cop-out!  Really, just have a listen, and if you want to support the music and help keep it coming, then simply make a donation ( $10-20 suggested) and I will personally send you a CD in the mail.   It's that simple.

If you want to donate via credit card or paypal, simply use the donate link below.

If the link isn't working, or you would rather donate via check, money order or cash,  send it to:

LIVE online - March 29, 2010

...Well folks, this is it.  After all the false starts, premature finishes, and bumps in the road, I can finally present this project with total confidence.  Every detail on every song has been meticulously crafted in my home studio, and now that it is a completely finished full length album I can give it away to you.  I hope you enjoy.

(use the grey flash player on the top of the screen to listen to the entire album and still browse the website)

Special thanks to:   Sandie Metzker, Meg Sieger, Anoosh Tirabady, Tia Quilter, Charles Lanesey, Susan Council, Jillian Adams, Jessica Miller, Marc Borai, Ed Gillis, Peter Polyak, Ollie Kangus, Nancy Cochrane, and Chris Chandler.  Without your help, my album would still be sitting on the shelf waiting to be mastered.  THANK YOU.  You all have a CD in reserve, and I will personally mail them to each of you as soon as they are printed.

And now, the next phase:    The fundraising for printing begins.  Please listen to the record here (this is the only place you can) and decide if you want a copy.  If you do, please make a donation to the printing fund.

Donations of $10-20 reserve a copy, and any donation of $50-100 and your name will be listed in the special thanks on the CD booklet.

*The album is being held back from digital download because it will be getting shopped to a selection of independent record labels.  RockSolomon.com is the ONLY PLACE that this record will be available for now.  I do have other recordings for download here: Rock Solomon on iTunes.com

The Album... - January 10, 2010

It has taken me over 2,350 man hours to finish, eaten my entire life savings, and has out lasted all my relationships; but I'm happy to say that my record is finally done. The songs are all original works, performed and engineered in a home studio that was destroyed and rebuilt twice. The project somehow survived 6 hurricanes, two emotional meltdowns, a massive flood and bankruptcy. It features solos from jazz greats such as Ronnie Pierce (played with Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday) and Kenny Fradley (Broadway, Carnegie Hall, U2 War album) as well as Julee Avallone (NEC Masters) and Brady Thomas (mysterious street musician).

Now that the record is done, I have decided that instead of selling them,

they will be given out for donations.

First however, I need to raise the money to pay for mastering, the final step in any pro studio recording before going to print.

If you contribute a donation of 10-20 dollars, I will put your name on a pre-order list for a copy of the finished CD.

Any donation of 50-100 or more, and I will list your name on the CD booklet in the Special Thanks as well.

Thank you to all who have already contributed, & i hope you enjoy the music.

Problems? Question for me? Just email me at Music@RockSolomon.com & we'll figure it out. Thanks Again

Auditioning Female Vocalists: - December 27, 2009

Hey, Check this out and pass it on...

This is the last track to be produced for a full length record due out
this summer. The recording features Kenny Fradley on trumpet (Broadway,
Carnegie Hall, U2 War Album) and Brady Thomas on Violin.

Please have a listen to the song, and if you think it is a good fit for
your voice and style, please record a simple scratch vocal track on top of
the instrumental version and email it back. Please use little, or no vocal
effects, and no harmonies or vocal layering. I need a raw recording so
that I can get an honest feel for your voice.

The song is written to start out a little suggestive, a little mysterious,
and then it builds to a powerful climax full of optimism and inspiration.
Use the vocal version as a guideline, but follow your inspiration and find
your own 'truth' as a singer.

Please record your voice on top of the instrumental track, and email it
back to me.

Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.

Back in the Studio... - November 6, 2009

I've been working my ass off this month to put the final vocal tracks on the "Unlocking the Window" project. I actually did a Beta version of this CD a couple years ago, but I always swore I would go back and finish it with the attention to detail that I know it has always needed. I'm now down the the last few tracks, mixing, and then that's it.

I only printed 200 of the Beta version, and 150 of those were corrupted, and had to be thrown away. The new version will be mastered here in Colorado, and then printed on a larger scale.

I'm giving myself about 3 weeks to finalize the mix on the new tracks. It has been a long, long project, but in it's final form, it will be worth every second. How many seconds are there in 2,000 man hours?

On hold... again. - August 5, 2009

The CD continues to wait. I made a breakthrough this last week, but now I'm leaving town for a much needed train trip. I'll pick up the project again in September when I get back. Seattle... San Fran.... LA.... I'll be seeing you.

Cancelled Show - August 1, 2009

Sorry everyone- I had to cancel my show tonight at Folsom Cafe. Hopefully I can re-schedule, and I'll send out an e-mail if/when I can. Please sign up to the 'newsletter' if you aren't already.

Sorry again,
-Dr. Rock

A Gig. - July 6, 2009

I'm still in Seattle, and my dad offered to let me sit in on his gig tonight, so I'm going to go down there and play a few songs. It's at the Amore' on 5th & Bell tonight sometime between 7-10pm.

R.I.P. Brother... - June 27, 2009

I'm delivering my little brothers ashes today. I traveled 7,000 miles to get here, over a 5 week tour through LA, Colorado & Key West. I have made some promises to him on how I'm going to live this silly life I've got. The short version is simply putting aside all the Bullshit. I look around and see so much of it.
To honor his memory, and to introduce him to the people who didn't know him, I have put on my plate a new project, an anthology of his life. I have no idea how it will turn out, or when it will be done, but It will be a labor of love, as everything in life really should be.

Rest In Peace, Izzy Truelove.

The Slacker is Dead, Long live the Prophet... - May 6, 2009

Well, for a bout three seconds, the 'Slacker Prophets' project was about to take off, but then yadaydadaydayda.... 'twas no more.

So, A new duo is in the works, with some special, simple, lovely tunes to go with it...

Slacker Prophets will undoubtably live again, but not yet.
